Regresamos una vez más. Sabemos que nuestra particular forma de trabajar no es colapsar al lector con publicaciones todos los días, reseñas cada dos por tres o entrevistas que no tengan más fondo que una cartera de monedas. Somos muy selectivos y es por eso que cuando queremos trabajar con alguna banda, sea para escribir sobre su último disco o hablar con ellos un rato mediante unas preguntas, lo hacemos porque ellos nos influyen. Nos atrapan y acabaremos expresando lo que ellos nos transmiten. Dentro de tanto alarmismo, caos, virus y poca sensatez, hemos podido conversar con dos de los tres componentes que forman la banda noruega, FAUNA TIMBRE. Os dejamos con una entrevista muy tranquila donde conoceremos más allá del título de un disco. Gracias a Marius y a Kenneth por hacer un espacio en sus hogares para Doom In Aeternum

¿Qué nos podéis contar sobre los sentimientos personales puestos en vuestro álbum?
- Kenneth: Mis propias experiencias personales y mis sentimientos en torno a ellas fueron sin duda una gran inspiración para la mayoría de las cosas que escribí. Algunas cosas solo necesitan ser contadas de una forma u otra.

- Marius: Fue una exploración curiosa de diferentes paisajes sonoros. Creo que el EP se unificó al experimentar juntos, tratando de encontrar formas musicales que coincidieran con nuestros distintos tipos de personalidad y variados temas existenciales.

¿Pensáis que la música solo es un sonido, o va más allá de la percepción de una nota?
- K: Para mí, la música es una forma de inculcar ciertos sentimientos en los demás o en mí mismo. El hecho de que el sentimiento recibido sea subjetivo solo lo mejora. Entonces, la música definitivamente no es solo un sonido. El sonido es el catalizador que desencadena recuerdos y sentimientos, y por lo tanto es una herramienta importante. Pero el resultado va mucho más allá del mero aspecto físico del mismo.

- M: Sí, la música se vuelve significativa una vez que se adhiere a la mente o al cuerpo de alguna manera, o si es rechazada por la mente y el cuerpo. Las líneas entre el sonido y la música son fluidas, y para mí no son términos estáticos y siempre están condicionados por varias circunstancias. Eso es lo que lo hace tan interesante para mí.

Desde que os conocimos, vuestro nombre siempre fue curioso para nosotros, y es que destaca por encima de muchos que se repiten. A nosotros nos atrae, ¿tiene algún motivo especial al ser seleccionado, entre otras tantas ideas, que imaginamos que hubieras tenido antes de escogerlo?
- K: El nombre en realidad se relaciona con varias cosas. La fauna puede relacionarse con nuestro amor por la naturaleza, pero también se refiere a una forma de música donde incorporamos varios géneros diferentes sin discriminación alguna. Timbre es una palabra para la calidad de sonido percibida de una nota, o el color del sonido si lo deseas. De alguna manera el nombre quedó grabado en nuestras mentes.

- M: La naturaleza no tiene ningún juicio o prejuicio, y el nombre es para reflejar eso mismo. Es absolutamente honesto, muy complicado y delicado al mismo tiempo. A su vez nosotros como humanos, imponemos significado y creamos sistemas dentro de esta premisa donde el tema es recurrente para nosotros.

"Altering Echoes" fue publicado en 2018 como vuestro EP debut. ¿cómo fue la elaboración de este trabajo, el proceso de las canciones, su motivo y el sentido que pensabais que daría a vuestros futuros oyentes?
- K: Al ser nuestro primer lanzamiento, fue un proceso de conocernos y refinar nuestras ideas en un terreno mutuo. Siempre quisimos hacer música que nos gustaría escuchar a nosotros mismos. Me sentí muy bien escribiendo con alguien que, en cierto sentido, cumpliese mis ideas. Algunas de mis ideas cambiaron, pero pienso que siempre para mejor. En cuanto a la audiencia, nunca estuve realmente seguro de que tuviéramos una, pero algunos de los comentarios que recibimos nos hicieron sentir realmente bien.

- M: Comenzamos a experimentar cómo podríamos derivar las ideas de los demás. Haciendo algún tipo de rompecabezas con demasiadas piezas extrañas que contenían sonidos, estructuras y filosofías. Crear algo completamente nuevo siempre es muy emocionante, y teníamos un montón de ideas flotando y tratábamos de crear algún tipo de narrativa / tema a partir de él. Intentamos tener ahora esa mentalidad, ya que también estamos trabajando en el próximo álbum: lo ilimitado que estuvo el trabajo con el debut, pero ahora con una visión y un significado más claros. Los primeros pasos son bastante aleatorios, pero es bueno aceptar esos impulsos que provienen de esas sesiones. Sentar las bases para crear más música nos dio algunas nuevas herramientas mentales.

Una de vuestras últimas publicaciones en Facebook era que estabais trabajando en algo nuevo. ¿Podéis contarnos algún detalle sobre ello?
- M: Llevamos un tiempo trabajando en un álbum completo y hemos terminado la preproducción de 11 canciones. Estábamos a punto de comenzar a grabar el álbum cuando el virus corona paralizó el mundo. Así que se suspendió hasta que sea posible reanudar el trabajo, pero todas las canciones están escritas y listas. Creo que tenemos algo sólido en este álbum, y todavía no estoy cansado de las canciones, lo cual es una buena señal. Es una mezcla entre canciones “doomy rock”, pistas más suaves y un par de rarezas. Además de eso, tenemos un par de otras canciones en las que estamos trabajando.

¿Quién está detrás de FAUNA TIMBRE, y cuáles son sus tres pilares en la vida?
- K: Marius, Petter y Kenneth. Amor por la naturaleza, el humanismo y la amistad.

¿Cómo fue la colaboración con vuestro sello Red Orchard Records y el hecho de la distancia entre vosotros a la hora de trabajar?
- M: Fue una buena experiencia trabajar con Red Orchard Records en el lanzamiento de “Altering Echoes”. Russ es un apasionado de la música, y aprecio el hecho de que estaba dispuesto a lanzar nuestro debut en un medio físico, siendo nosotros una nueva banda desconocida. No sentimos el efecto de la distancia ya que nos comunicamos regularmente a través del correo electrónico.

¿Cómo se presenta el futuro de FAUNA TIMBRE desde la perspectiva de conciertos? ¿Seguís tocando sobre los escenarios con "Altering Echoes"? ¿o en cambio, estáis en pausa de creación para el próximo trabajo?
- K: En cuanto a los conciertos, hemos estado en pausa desde que comenzamos la banda. Supongo que es uno de nuestros objetivos tocar en vivo regularmente, simplemente no se ha materializado todavía. ¡Pero llegaremos allí!.

¿Cuáles son los dos últimos libros que te has leído, y cuales dos son los que recomendarías a nuestros lectores?
- K: "Cántico por Leibowitz" de Walter M. Miller jr. y "La carretera” de Cormac McCarthy, a los cuales me gustaría recomendar.

- M: El último libro que terminé fue "I skogens dype, stille ro" de Mikkel Soya Bølstad. Traducido libremente a "En la profunda y tranquila calma del bosque". Se trata de los pequeños fragmentos de bosques antiguos que quedan en Noruega. Un libro muy importante y bueno, y muestra cómo hemos descuidado nuestros bosques antiguos. Si no recuerdo mal, solo el 0,5% de los bosques en Noruega son antiguos. Ahora mismo estoy leyendo "Psicoterapia existencial" de Irvin D. Yalom.

¿Qué huella quiere dejar FAUNA TIMBRE en la mente de sus oyentes para que recuerden su sonido?
- K: Si nuestra música puede hacer que los oyentes se alejen unos segundos de la vida real, me haría feliz. Creo que toda buena música tiene la capacidad de llevarte a algún lugar dentro de tu mente. Los mejores conciertos en los que he estado son los que casi me han dejado en trance.

- M: Con las nuevas canciones en las que estamos trabajando, espero que los temas, específicamente los temas relacionados con el cambio climático en las pistas "Floods Will ..." y "Splinter Moon" se manifiesten emocional y físicamente en el oyente. Esto varía de una canción a otra para mí. Pero espero que la gente sienta al menos algo.

We go back one more time. We know that our particular way of working is not to collapse the reader with publications every day, reviews every two by three or interviews without "meat". We are very selective and that is why when we want to work with a band, be it to write about their latest album or talk to them for a while with some questions, we do it because they influence us. They catch us and we will end up expressing what they transmit to us. With so much alarm, chaos, virus and little good sense, we have been able to talk to two of the three components that make up the Norwegian band, FAUNA TIMBRE. We leave you with a very quiet interview where we will get to know beyond the title of an album. Thanks to Marius and Kenneth for making a space in their homes for Doom In Aeternum

What can you tell us about the personal feelings imposed on your album?
Kenneth: My own personal experiences and my feelings around them was for sure a big inspiration to most of the things I wrote. Some things just needs to be told in one way or another.

Marius: It was a curious exploration of different soundscapes. I think the EP kind of came together by us experimenting together, trying to find musical forms that matched our personality types and various existential themes.

Do you think that music is only a sound, or does it go beyond the perception of a note?
K: To me music is a way to instill certain feelings into myself or others. The fact that the feeling received is subjective only makes it better. So music is definitely not only a sound. The sound is the catalyst that sets off memories and feelings, and thus is an important tool. But the result goes way beyond the mere physical aspect of it.

M: Yes, music becomes meaningful once it attaches to the mind or body in some way, or if it is rejected by the mind and body. The lines between sound and music is fluid, and to me these are not static terms and always conditioned by various circumstances. That’s what makes it so interesting for me.

Since we met you, your name has always been curious to us, and it is that it stands out above many that are repeated. We are attracted to you, do you have any special reason for being selected, among many other ideas, that we imagine you would have had before choosing it?
K: The name actually relates to several things. Fauna can relate to our love for nature, but also refer to a form of music where we incorporate several different genres without any discrimination. Timbre is a word for the perceived sound quality of a note, or the sound color if you like. Somehow the name stuck in our minds.

M: Nature does not hold any judgement or prejudices, and the name is ment to reflect that. It's absolute honest, and very complicated and delicate at the same time. How we as humans impose meaning and create systems within this premise is a returning theme for us.

"Altering Echoes" was released in 2018 as your debut EP. How was the elaboration of this work, the process of the songs, their motive and the meaning of what we think would give future listeners?
K: Being our first release it was a process of getting to know each other, and sort of refine our ideas into a mutual ground. We always wanted to make music that we would like to hear ourselves. It felt really good writing with someone who in a sense fulfilled my ideas. Some of my ideas changed, but always for the better I think. As for the audience I was never really sure we would have one, but some of the feedback we got felt really good.

M: We started experimenting on how we could spin off on each others ideas. Doing some sort of puzzle with too many odd pieces containing sounds, structures and philosophies. Creating something completely new is always very exciting, and we were having a mess of ideas floating around and we tried to create some sort of narrative/theme out of it. We try to have that mentality now that we are working on the next album too – the boundlessness of work with the debut, but now with more clear sight and meaning. The first steps are rather random, but it's good to embrace those impulses that comes from those sessions. It lay the ground work for to create more music and gave us some new mental tools.

One of your last posts on Facebook was that you were working on something new. Can you tell us any details about it?
M: We've been working on a full-length album for some time now, and we have finished pre-production for 11 songs. We were about to start recording the album when the corona virus paralyzed the world. So that's been put on hold until it's possible to resume the work, but all songs are written and ready. I think we have something solid in this album, and I'm still not tired of the songs which is a good sign. It's a mix between doomy "rock" songs and more mellow open tracks, and a couple of oddities. On top of that we have a couple of other songs we are working on.

Who is behind FAUNA TIMBRE, and what are its three pillars in life?
K: Marius, Petter and Kenneth. Love for nature, humanism and friendship.

How was the collaboration with your label, Red Orchard Records and the fact of the distance between you for working?
M: It was a good experience working with Red Orchard Records on the release of Altering Echoes. Russ is passionate about music, and I'm appreciative of the fact that he was willing to put out our debut in a physical media, with us being a new unknown band. We didn't feel the effect of the distance as we were communication regularly though e-mail.

How is the future of FAUNA TIMBRE presented from the perspective of concerts? Are you still playing on stage with "Altering Echoes"? Or are you on pause for the next album instead?
K: Concert wise we have been on pause since we started the band. I guess it is one of our goals to play live regularly, it just hasn’t materialised yet. We’ll get there though!

What are the last two books (or comic, graphic novel...) you have read, and which two would you recommend to our readers.
K: "A canticle for Leibowitz" by Walter M. Miller jr. and "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy, both of whom I would like to recommend.

M: The last book I finished was "I skogens dype, stille ro" by Mikkel Soya Bølstad. Loosely translated to "In the deep, quiet calmness of the forest". It's about the the tiny fragments of old growth forest left in Norway.A very important and good book, and it shows how we have neglected our old forests. If I remember correctly only 0,5% of the forests in Norway are old growth. Right now I'm reading "Existential Psychotherapy" by Irvin D. Yalom.

What mark does FAUNA TIMBRE want to leave in the minds of its listeners so that they remember its sound?
K: If our music can make listeners drift away from real life a few seconds it would make me happy. I think all good music has that ability to carry you somewhere inside your mind. The best shows I’ve been to is the ones that have almost put me into a trance like state.

M: With the new songs we are working on I hope that the themes, specifically the themes regarding climate change in the tracks "Floods Will..." and "Splinter Moon" will manifest themselves emotionally and physically in the listener. This varies from song to song for me. But I hope people feel at least something.
