La banda que os traemos hoy, no sabríamos cómo agradecer su infinita paciencia. Ellos lo saben, y es lo único que nos importa. Teníamos ganas de publicar su entrevista. Personalmente, me ha marcado mucho su último disco y era una gran necesidad hablar con ellos. Nos encantaría que quien esté leyendo estas líneas se pasase por la reseña de la banda para que disfrute de un viaje personal a través de su sonido. La puedes leer aquí. Hablamos de REMINA y su gran trabajo titulado “Strata”. Viajamos por unos minutos por la mente de las personas que hay detrás de la agrupación alemana y te lo dejamos aquí como recuerdo. Disfruta de la lectura, de su música y su magia.


Si os miráis entre vosotros y buscáis una respuesta dejando a un lado lo técnico desarrollado para el disco, qué podéis opinar que haya aportado el otro a “Strata”. Qué reflejo de su personalidad, su visión del mundo, su piel, su interior… está plasmado en este disco.
- Remina: Todo lo relacionado con el álbum, y Remina en su conjunto, es una sinergia perfecta entre ambos. No hay una manera fácil para nosotros de separar realmente lo que el otro aporta, porque ambos ponemos todo en esto y la música es un entrelazamiento completo de nuestras influencias e impulso creativo. Algo en lo increíblemente similares que somos en estilo y enfoque se fusiona tan hermosamente y, al mismo tiempo, cada uno de nosotros aporta algo diferente que inspira al otro.

Vuestro primer disco “Strata” se ha quedado grabado a fuego en la memoria de vuestros oyentes y de nosotros, porque al realizar la reseña del disco fue un proceso íntimo y muy profundo. Estamos seguros que para muchos que han escuchado vuestro trabajo han sentido alguna cosa parecida desde su propia experiencia. ¿Qué ha sido para vosotros este recibimiento tan asombroso que ha obtenido “Strata”?
- Remina: ¡Gracias por las amables palabras! Realmente no esperábamos tanta efusión de amor por el álbum, comenzamos Remina porque es un proyecto que ambos siempre quisimos hacer. Entonces, cuando la gente recibió el álbum con tanta calidez, ¡sinceramente nos sentimos muy honrados por todo ello! Realmente afirmó nuestro sentimiento, de que Remina es un enfoque a muy largo plazo para nosotros.

Más allá de buscar un nombre para una banda, se necesitan unos puntos importantes que sostengan en vuestras manos la idea que queréis empezar a crear. ¿cuáles fueron esos puntos importantes que provocaron el nacimiento de REMINA?
- Remina: Con Remina realmente queríamos hacer la música que siempre habíamos querido. Compartimos influencias similares y crecimos amando exactamente los mismos tipos de música, por lo que queríamos crear algo fuertemente inspirado en el Doom pero también inspirado en otros géneros que amamos como el Gothic, el Post-Rock, el Post-Metal, la electrónica y el Grunge. También Shoegaze, música de los 80 y 90 y bandas sonoras.

Enlazando con la pregunta anterior, y ahora sí centrándonos en el nombre de REMINA, ¿qué es para vosotros “remina”? ¿qué le habéis entregado a “él”, “ella” o a ese ser que se ha formado dentro de la palabra “remina”? Me gusta creer que una banda pone sus pensamientos, sentimientos y experiencias, no solo en las letras o en el sonido, si no también en su nombre.
- Remina: Tomamos prestado el nombre de un libro de terror cósmico de una gran influencia literaria nuestra, Junji Ito. La atmósfera y los temas de Junji Ito significan mucho para nosotros y nos influyen mucho, y el horror cósmico del libro "Hellstar Remina" realmente encaja con nuestra estética. El nombre, por supuesto, significa mucho para nosotros, pero también es difícil encontrar un nombre que destaque o que no sea utilizado por otras veinte bandas en estos días.

Por lo que hemos leído en vuestras redes, para los directos habéis juntado a otros músicos: Mauro Ragnoli de (Echo), Giovanni Feroldi de Ghostheart Nebula / Obsolete Theory, y a Riccardo Floridia de Sojourner. ¿Qué nos podéis contar sobre ellos y lo que aportarán a REMINA en los próximos directos?
- Remina: Todos ellos son excelentes músicos y Mike los conoce desde hace años. Riccardo es el baterista de la otra banda de Mike, Sojourner, y son amigos desde hace mucho tiempo, por lo que, naturalmente, fue nuestra primera elección para la batería. Mauro tiene una banda fantástica llamada (EchO) y Giovanni tiene dos bandas increíbles, Ghostheart Nebula y Obsolete Theory. Todos ellos son músicos fantásticos que pueden ayudar a darle vida al sonido de Remina en el escenario.

Una pregunta sencilla y con una única palabra para definir a “Strata”… ¿Cuál sería?
- Remina: Laberíntico. Quizás no en un sentido complejo de muerte tecnológica, pero en términos de las capas y de todo lo que sucede 'debajo del capó', cuando separamos las pistas para ordenar el material en vivo, había capas que funcionaban juntas y que olvidamos por completo que habíamos escrito allí.

Esta es una pregunta que me gusta dejar fija en las entrevistas para conocer más allá del papel del músico a quien está detrás de una banda. Siempre pregunto: ¿te gusta la lectura? ¿cómics, novelas gráficas…? Si estás leyendo o acabas de leer alguna cosa, me podrías decir el título y destacarías alguna cita o momento que se te haya quedado grabado en la mente?
- Remina: Nos encantan los libros, los cómics y las novelas gráficas, por lo que hay mucho más de lo que podríamos hablar aquí. Sin embargo, uno que nos gusta mencionar a menudo es "Southern Reach Trilogy / Area X" de Jeff VanderMeer. Influyó en nuestra canción "Ghost Bird" con la banda Light Field Reverie, y le pusimos ese nombre a nuestro estudio. Es una de nuestras piezas narrativas favoritas colectivas en cualquier campo. Hay demasiados momentos para resaltar en esos tres libros, lo único que puedo hacer es recomendarlo sin dudarlo y asegurarles que es una de las obras de ficción más bellas y melancólicas que jamás haya leído. Un par de otros autores que recomendamos encarecidamente son Laird Barron y Matthew Bartlett... entre muchos otros.

Para vuestros fieles seguidores es una pregunta importante; ¿después de completar la formación para los conciertos.. ¿cómo han ido? ¿Nos podéis adelantar alguna fecha para lo que queda de año o para el próximo?
- Remina: ¡Sí! Hemos asistido a Metal Gates en Rumania, Stella Nomine en Alemania y aún nos queda tocar en Doom Heart en Italia, que será mañana 21 de octubre. Además de nuestros conciertos de 2023 (el último que haremos es en Milán), hemos estado ocupados trabajando en nuevo material de Remina para el próximo año que estamos ansiosos por compartir con todos nuestros oyentes.

Para cerrar esta entrevista antes de nada, como agradecimiento personal e individual, quería daros las gracias por darme la oportunidad de escuchar y escribir lo que me ha provocado vuestro disco “Strata”, amar el sonido de REMINA y por colaborar con nosotros en nuestro último recopilatorio de 2022, celebrando nuestro décimo aniversario. ## INTERVIEW: REMINA ##

The band that we bring to you today, we would not know how to thank them for their infinite patience. They know it, and it's the only thing that matters to us. We wanted to publish his interview. Personally, their last album has had a big impact on me and it was a great need to talk to them. We would love for whoever is reading these lines to read the band's review so they can enjoy a personal journey through their sound. You can read it here. We talk about REMINA and her great work titled “Strata”. We travel for a few minutes through the minds of the people behind the German group and we leave it here as a souvenir. Enjoy reading, its music and its magic.

If you look at each other and look for an answer leaving aside the technical aspects developed for the album, what can you think that the other has contributed to “Strata”. What a reflection of his personality, his vision of the world, his skin, his interior… is embodied in this record.
REMINA: Everything about the album, and Remina as a whole, is a perfect synergy of both of us. There’s no easy way for us to really separate what the other brings, because we both pour everything into this and the music is a complete interweaving of both of our influences and creative drive. Something about how incredibly similar we are in style and approach melds together so beautifully, and at the same time each of us brings something different to the table that inspires the other.

Your first album “Strata” has been burned into the memory of your listeners and of us, because reviewing the album was an intimate and very deep process. We are sure that many who have heard your work have felt something similar from their own experience. What has been for you this amazing reception that “Strata” has obtained?
REMINA: Thank you for the kind words! We genuinely didn’t expect such a huge outpouring of love for the album, we started Remina because it’s a project we’ve both always wanted to make. So when people received the album so warmly, we were honestly so humbled by it all! It really affirmed our feeling that Remina is a very long-term focus for us.

Beyond looking for a name for a band, you need some important. What were those important points that led to the birth of REMINA?
REMINA: With Remina we really just wanted to make the music we had always wanted to. We share such similar influences and we grew up loving the exact same kinds of music, so we wanted to create something heavily doom-inspired but also pull from the other genres we love like goth, post-rock, post-metal, electronic, grunge, shoegaze, 80s and 90s music, and soundtracks.

Linking to the previous question, and now focusing on the name REMINA, what is “remina” for you? What have you given to “he”, “her” or to that being that has been formed within the word “remina”? I like to believe that a band puts their thoughts, feelings and experiences, not only in the lyrics or in the sound, but also in their name.
REMINA: We borrowed the name from a cosmic horror book by a huge literary influence of ours, Junji Ito. Junji Ito’s atmosphere and themes mean a lot to us and influence us a lot, and the cosmic horror of the book Hellstar Remina really fit our aesthetic. The name, of course, means a lot to us, but it is also a case of it being difficult to find a name that stands out or isn’t used by twenty other bands these days.

From what we have read on your networks, for the live shows you have brought together other musicians: Mauro Ragnoli from (Echo), Giovanni Feroldi from Ghostheart Nebula / Obsolete Theory, and Riccardo Floridia from Sojourner. What can you tell us about them and what they will bring to REMINA in the next live shows?
REMINA: All of them are excellent musicians, and Mike has known them for years. Riccardo is the drummer of Mike’s other band, Sojourner, and they have been friends for a long time so he was naturally our first choice for drums. Mauro has a fantastic band called (EchO), and Giovanni has two amazing bands Ghostheart Nebula and Obsolete Theory. They are all fantastic musicians who can help up bring the sound of Remina to life on stage.

A simple question with a single word to define “Strata”… What would it be?
REMINA: Labyrinthine. Maybe not in a complex tech-death sense, but in terms of the layering and how much is going on ‘under the hood’, when we picked apart the tracks to get the live stuff sorted there were layers that work together that we entirely forgot we had written in there.

This is a question that I like to leave fixed in interviews to learn more than the role of the musician who is behind a band. I always ask: do you like reading? Comics, graphic novels…? If you are reading or have just read something, could you tell me the title and would you highlight some quote or moment that has stuck in your mind?
REMINA: We love books, comics, and graphic novels so there is way more than we could ever talk about here. One that we like to mention often though is Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach Trilogy / Area X. It influenced our song Ghost Bird in Light Field Reverie, and we named our studio after it. It’s one of our collective favourite pieces of storytelling in any field. There are too many moments to highlight in those three books, all I can do is recommend it without any hesitation and assure you it’s one of the most beautiful and melancholy pieces of fiction you’ll ever read. A couple of other authors that we highly recommend are Laird Barron and Matthew Bartlett… among many others.

For your faithful followers it is an important question; after completing the training for the concerts, How have the concerts gone? What do you have left until the end of the year?
REMINA: Yeah! We have attended Metal Gates in Romania, Stella Nomine in Germany and we still have to play at Doom Heart in Italy, which will be tomorrow, October 21. In addition to our 2023 concerts (the last one we’ll do is in Milan), we’ve been busy working on new Remina material for next year that we can’t wait to share with all our listeners.

To close this interview first of all, as a personal and individual thank you, I wanted to thank you for giving me the opportunity to listen and write what your album “Strata” has caused me, to love the sound of REMINA and for collaborating with us in our last compilation (2022).
