Por qué no vamos con una pregunta directa para empezar esta entrevista. Volvéis de un descanso muy largo. Un oyente os descubre en este regreso, y tiene el nuevo disco en sus manos. No sabe cuánto lleváis… de qué manera le explicarías qué es KONGH y su sonido para disfrutar al 100% de vuestro trabajo.
- K: La principal aspiración de Kongh, desde que se formó la banda en 2004, siempre ha sido construir nuestro sonido sobre la contundencia, la intransigencia y la imprevisibilidad. Esto puede adoptar muchas formas distintas; por eso siempre hemos combinado elementos rápidos, lentos, minimalistas, complejos, melancólicos, agresivos, melódicos, monótonos, hermosos y desagradables. Tenemos profundas raíces en el *doom* y el *sludge* basados en *riffs*, pero nunca hemos intentado encajar en el molde del *doom metal* ni formar parte de una escena concreta. Por ello, creo —o espero— que tenemos un sonido propio. Aunque recibimos influencias de muy diversos artistas, considero que existe un sonido característico de Kongh que ha ido evolucionando con el paso de los años. Me gusta la música que se atreve a correr riesgos y no se ciñe a patrones preestablecidos, y siempre intento tener esto presente al componer. Creo que Kongh atrae a quienes buscan una música algo más desafiante, que ofrezca la sensación de estar explorando algo desconocido.
¿Cuándo fue el momento en que vuestra mente reaccionó y dijo, “este es el momento de volver”?
- K: Llevaba tiempo pensándolo, pero cuando un proyecto ha estado en pausa tanto tiempo como el de Kongh, reactivarlo puede requerir un esfuerzo considerable. Primero me ocupé de diversos asuntos administrativos para poner en orden todo lo relacionado con la banda. Paralelamente, llevaba varios años trabajando en *riffs* e ideas, aunque a un ritmo bastante pausado. Una vez resueltos los asuntos de la banda, me sentí listo para empezar a trabajar en el nuevo álbum. Comencé la grabación en noviembre de 2025. Trabajé casi a diario en la grabación, la mezcla, los arreglos, la composición de las letras, el diseño de la portada y la planificación del lanzamiento; todo quedó terminado a principios de junio de este año. Así pues, *Dissolved In Time* es el resultado de algo más de medio año de trabajo diario e intenso.
Si antes hablábamos de un nuevo oyente, ahora toca a vuestros fieles seguidores. ¿Qué crees que van a encontrar en el nuevo disco?
- K:
Creo que cualquiera a quien le guste alguno de nuestros álbumes anteriores encontrará mucho de su agrado en este disco. He compuesto las canciones con un gran respeto por nuestra trayectoria, tratando de mantener los elementos fundamentales que definen nuestra música y canalizando todo ello para crear las mejores canciones que mi capacidad me permite. No es un álbum pensado para complacer a las masas: comienza con un tema de 19 minutos. Es una declaración de principios que define la esencia de Kongh: viajes musicales donde la experiencia y la exploración de lo desconocido priman sobre la adaptación a algoritmos o la búsqueda de una accesibilidad fácil. Quienes disfrutan de Kongh encontrarán mucho que explorar en este nuevo trabajo.
¿Qué hay en "Dissolved in Time" que no hayamos visto en los anteriores discos?
- K:
Bastantes cosas. En primer lugar, produje el álbum yo mismo por primera vez y fui el principal responsable de la grabación y la mezcla. Esto me permitió dedicar mucho más tiempo a lograr una producción que, a mi juicio, se adapta mejor a la música de Kongh. Realmente invertí mucho tiempo explorando diferentes sonidos de guitarra y bajo, y combinando diversos equipos para conseguir exactamente el sonido que creo que hace justicia a la música. Además, trabajé más con instrumentos electrónicos que anteriormente, como sintetizadores Moog y el Mellotron. Estos no ocupan un lugar protagonista en la producción, sino que actúan más bien como un matiz adicional que contribuye a la experiencia general y amplía nuestro sonido sin saturar el espacio sonoro.
También trabajé con nuevos miembros de la banda: Christian Augustin (conocido por formar parte de grupos como Cult Of Luna y Totalt Jävla Mörker) se ocupa de la batería; es un músico brillante que encaja muy bien en Kongh. Asimismo, Kristian Karlsson, de Cult Of Luna, participó en la grabación y mezcla de las pistas de batería en su estudio, Studio Hufvudstaden; el resultado fue excelente. Como extra, Jörgen Sandström (conocido por bandas como Entombed, Grave y Krux) aportó voces guturales en todos los temas. Esto añadió una dosis extra de brutalidad e hizo que el sonido de Kongh fuera aún más pesado. Jörgen ya había tocado el bajo con nosotros en conciertos, pero esta fue la primera vez que colaboró en una grabación. Tanto Christian como Jörgen formarán parte de la formación de Kongh para los directos de enero.
Haciendo un descanso, esto es algo que siempre pregunto a todos por igual. Cuando no estás con la música, ¿disfrutas del cine, de un buen libro para desconectar? Si es así, me gustaría saber qué es lo último que has visto en cuanto a películas, o series, y qué libro nos podrías recomendar. Se incluye novela gráfica y cómics.
- K: Sí, el cine y la literatura son dos de mis grandes aficiones. Intento ver una película y leer un rato todos los días. Me apasiona el género de terror, así que veo muchas películas de este tipo y leo libros de suspense. Me gustan las películas de terror desde los años 70 hasta la actualidad; hay muchísimo por descubrir. Pero también me interesan otros géneros: drama, comedia, ciencia ficción, suspense, documentales, etcétera. La última película que vi fue Don't Deliver Us from Evil (1971) y el último libro que leí fue Klara y el sol, de Kazuo Ishiguro. En cuanto a novelas gráficas, me gusta mucho la obra de Junji Ito.
¿Qué sensaciones tenéis con este nuevo disco? Cómo ha sido el proceso de creación más allá de lo material.
- K:
Estoy muy satisfecho con el nuevo álbum. Quizás más que con cualquier otro disco que haya hecho. Creo que captura exactamente lo que quiero que sea Kongh. Dado que el álbum se ha gestado durante un periodo tan largo, realmente he tenido tiempo para ser selectivo con mis ideas. Es una colección de ideas que han estado madurando durante muchos años. Sinceramente, creo que uno de los *riffs* se compuso allá por 2007, pero no encontró su lugar en una composición hasta ahora.
El 30 de enero KONGH regresa al escenario después de tantos años. ¿Nos podéis contar si están confirmadas más fechas? ¿Alguna gira?
- K:
Actualmente no hay más conciertos programados, aunque podrían surgir nuevas fechas en el futuro. Ante todo, nos centraremos en la actuación prevista para enero en Estocolmo. Será un concierto especial y de larga duración que incluirá temas de los cuatro álbumes de Kongh. Por el momento, no tenemos planes concretos de realizar una gira; últimamente estoy bastante ocupado con mi trabajo habitual y no tengo muchas posibilidades de salir de gira. Todo depende, en cierta medida, de si recibimos ofertas que resulten atractivas y viables. No obstante, puedo garantizar que habrá más conciertos individuales o actuaciones en festivales, de una forma u otra.

Why don't we start this interview with a direct question? You’re returning after a very long hiatus. A listener discovers you upon this comeback and is holding the new album in their hands. They don’t know your history—how would you explain what KONGH is?. How do you describe your sound so they can fully appreciate your album?
K: The main ambition behind Kongh, ever since the band was formed in 2004, has always been to build our sound on heaviness, uncompromising nature, and unpredictability. This can take many different forms, which is why we have always mixed fast, slow, minimalist, complex, melancholic, aggressive, melodic, monotonous, beautiful, and unpleasant elements. We are deeply rooted in riff-based doom and sludge, but we have never tried to fit into a doom metal mold or to be part of a scene. Therefore, I believe, or hope, that we have a sound of our own. Even though we are influenced by many different artists, I think there is a Kongh sound that has developed over the years. I like music that dares to take risks and does not stick to a predetermined pattern, and I always try to keep this in mind when I create music. I believe Kongh appeals to people who want slightly more challenging music that is like exploring something unknown.
When was the moment your mind reacted and said, “this is the moment to return”?
K: I had been thinking about it for a while, but when a project has been in hiatus for as long as Kongh had been, it can take quite a bit of effort to get it going again. First, I handled various business matters to get things around the band in good order. At the same time, I had been working on riffs and ideas at a fairly low intensity for several years. Once all the business around the band was settled, I felt ready to start working on the new album. I started recording the album in November 2025. I worked almost every day on recording, mixing, arranging, writing lyrics, making the album cover, and planning the release, and everything was finished in early June this year. So Dissolved In Time is the result of just over half a year of daily intensive work.
We were just talking about new listeners; now it’s time to focus on your followers. What do you think they'll find in the new album?
K: I think anyone who likes any of our previous albums will find a lot to appeal to them on this album. I have written the songs with great respect for our background and tried to stick to the fundamental components that are important to our music, and tried to channel this by writing the best songs that my ability allows. It is not crowd-pleasing - the album opens with a song that is 19 minutes long. This is a statement to show what Kongh is about. Musical journeys where the experience and exploration of the unknown are more important than catering to algorithms and easy accessibility. Those who like Kongh will have a lot to explore on the new album.
What is there in "Dissolved in Time" that we haven't seen in previous albums?
K:
Quite a lot. First of all, I produced the album myself for the first time and was the main responsible for the recording and mixing. This has allowed me to spend much more time achieving a production that I believe best suits Kongh's music. I have really spent a lot of time exploring different guitar and bass sounds and combining various pieces of equipment to get exactly the sound that I think does the music justice. In addition, I have worked more with electronic instruments than before, such as Moog synths and the Mellotron. These are not in the forefront of the production but rather act as an extra shimmer, which contributes to the overall experience and expands our sound without taking up too much space.
I have also worked with new band members - Christian Augustin (known from, among others, Cult Of Luna and Totalt Jävla Mörker) plays drums and he is a brilliant drummer who fits Kongh very well. In addition, Kristian Karlsson from Cult Of Luna participated in recording and mixing the drum tracks in his studio, Studio Hufvudstaden. It turned out very well. As an extra bonus, Jörgen Sandström (known from, among others, Entombed, Grave, Krux) contributed growl vocals on all the tracks. This added extra brutality and made Kongh even heavier. Jörgen has played bass with use before on shows, but this was the first time he contributed to a recording. Both Christian and Jörgen will be part of Kongh's live lineup in January.
Taking a quick break—this is something I always ask everyone. When you aren't working on music, do you enjoy movies or a good book to unwind? If so, I’d love to know the last movie or series you watched and what book you’d recommend. Graphic novels and comics count, too.
K: Yes, films and books are two of my biggest interests. I try to watch a film a day and also read for a while every day. I have a fondness for horror, so I watch a lot of horror films and read suspenseful books. I like horror films from the 1970s all the way to the present day. There is so incredibly much to explore. But I also like many other things. Drama, comedy, sci-fi, thrillers, documentaries, etc. The latest film I watched was Don't Deliver Us from Evil from 1971. The latest book I read was Klara And The Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro. When it comes to graphic novels, I really like Junji Ito very much.
How do you feel about this new album? What was the creative process like, beyond the material aspects?
K:
I am very satisfied with the new album. Perhaps more than I have been with any other album I have made. I think it captures exactly what I want Kongh to be. Because the album has developed over such a long period, I have really had the time to be selective with my ideas. It is a collection of ideas that have been brewing for many years. Honestly I think one of the riffs was written in like 2007 but didn’t quite find its place in a composition until now.
On January 30th, KONGH returns to the stage after so many years. Can you tell us if any more dates are confirmed? Any tours?
K:
There are currently no more shows booked, but additional bookings may come up in the future. First and foremost, we will focus on the upcoming show in January in Stockholm. It will be a special, extra-long performance featuring songs from all four Kongh albums. We have no direct tour plans at the moment. I am quite busy with my regular job these days and do not have the opportunity to tour much more. It depends somewhat on whether any offers come in that feel attractive and feasible. However, I can guarantee that there will be more individual shows or festival gigs, in one way or another.
